Does It Clog Pores?

About This Website

Welcome to doesitclogpores.com! I hope this tool can help you achieve clear skin. I'm not a specialist, just someone who struggles with oily skin and closed comedones. I created this website out of necessity and a desire to help others with similar skin concerns.

Why I Created This Site

I noticed that the currently available apps rely on product databases, but they often don't include many of the products available in local drugstores in my area. I needed a way to check the ingredients list directly to see if it contained any known comedogenic ingredients. Initially, I was using a script I wrote, browsing online and copying ingredients lists. I soon realised it would be incredibly useful to check ingredients in-store using my camera—especially for products like blushes and foundations that need to be swatched before purchase. That's how this website came to be.

Disclaimer

I want to be clear that I am not a skincare specialist, and I can't vouch for the absolute accuracy of the data. I've collected comedogenic ingredients information from various sources. As far as I know, the studies aren't entirely reliable, so in hopes of achieving clear skin, I err on the side of caution with any ingredient mentioned at least once as comedogenic. These ingredients will have grey colour and no comedogenic rating assigned. For example, one such ingredient that I've included is shea butter, which is rather unlikely to cause problems for most people, but you will see it mentioned on a few sites as comedogenic. If you see it in your ingredients list, be cautious and note it. If you use the product for some time without issues, you can consider that ingredient safe for you.

Mission and Purpose

The primary goal of doesitclogpores.com is to provide a quick and easy way to check skincare ingredients for comedogenicity. By doing so, I hope to help you make informed decisions about the products you use on your skin.

How to Use This Site

  • Scan the Ingredients List: Use your phone's camera to scan the ingredients list directly from the product packaging. Please be cautious, as sometimes the text may be read incorrectly.
  • Input Ingredients as Text: Alternatively, you can manually input the ingredients list into the text box.

The website will then provide information on any known comedogenic ingredients in the product. The comedogenicity ratings will help you understand the potential impact on your skin.
